| 1970 : Session with Granny' s Intentions and Dr. Strangely Strange ( in the album Heavy Petting). Skid Row release their first album "Skid Row" and tour in US and Europe. Towards the end of the year they record their second album in 34 hours. 1971 : The album is released with the title "34 hours" and the band starts a tour in US and UK. That year, an Irish magazine "New Spotlight" rates Skid Row as the number 1 non-resident Irish band, after a popularity poll. ![]() 1972 : Skid Row record their third album ( which will be released in 1990!), but before the tour, Gary leaves the band to follow a solo career and is replaced by Paul Chapman. However, the chemistry of the original line-up was lost. The remaining band members, return to Ireland and tour under the label Brush (or Skid Row). 1973 : Gary forms the Gary Moore Band and records the album "Grinding Stone" with not big success. The other members are : Pearse Kelly (drums) and John Curtis (bass). 1974 : In January Gary joins Thin Lizzy after a contact with Lizzy manager Chris Morrison and the invitation of his good friend Phil Lynott, and tours with the band (Brian Downey on drums). He records "Still in love with you", the only track with him in the band' s album "Nightlife", and the tracks "Little Darilng" and "Sitamoia". Gary leaves the band in Spring, after getting tired from the lifestyle and a bit of jealousy between him and Phil. ![]() 1975 : He joins John Hiseman 's Colosseum II, a jazz/rock/fusion band. Band members are : Gary Moore (guitars/vocals), John Hiseman (drums), Don Airey (keyboards) and John Mole (bass). 1976 : The band releases their first LP "Strange New Flesh". After a European tour, the band records their second LP in seven days! This year a Thin Lizzy compilation "Remembering Part 1" includes two songs from Gary 's first stay in the band : "Sitamoia" and "Little darling". 1977 : Colosseum II' s second album "Electric Savage" is released, followed by another album "Wardance". He tours with the band. This year, Gary joins again Thin Lizzy (Brian Robertson injured his hand) for an upcoming tour in America supporting Queen (Scott Gorham on the other guitar). It is said that the band played so good, that Queen began to shorten the support 's act time, and played classical music between the sets, so that the crowd "forgets" Lizzy 's power!! When the tour ends, Phil asks Gary to stay permanently to the band, but he decides to return to Colosseum II and help them promote their album.
1978 : Gary joins Thin Lizzy again (Brian Robertson left the group), this time as an official member. Gary with members of Lizzy and Sex Pistols form a band called The Greedy Bastards and play some live shows. Thin Lizzy tour in America and in Australia (with drummer Mark Nauseef, because Brian Downey got exhausted and asked for a break) for the first time. The Sydney Opera-House show in August was filmed and released years later as "The boys are back in town" - Video. After appearing in other musician' s LPs ( Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rod Argent, Gary Boyle), Gary releases the solo album "Back on the streets", with Phil Lynott as a guest in some songs, including the Top Ten single in the UK Charts "Parisienne Walkways". A beautiful ballad song that is going to be a trademark in Moore' s carrer over the years, due to Gary' s excellent melodic playing and Lynott' s singing & lyrics. 1979 : Brian Downey rejoins the band and Thin Lizzy record "Black rose", one of their best albums (including Waiting for an alibi, Sarah, Got to give it up). Gary' s musical contribution is very high, especially in songs like Sarah and Black Rose, which gave Thin Lizzy a more qualitative dimension in their music. During their US tour Gary and Phil have many rows and Gary flies to LA and never returns. There, he forms his new band called G Force. He also participates in Cozy Powell' s "Over the top" (track "Killer"), this year. |
